Shorter Throw, Less Play, Stiffer Feel:

  • Approximately 25% reduction in throw
  • 300 series stainless steel construction
  • Unique grip design uses special nuts to stay affixed
  • Supplied with grease and alcohol wipe for ease of installation

Refining your Civic or Accord's shifting system is a great way to add a sporty feel that will put a smile on your face every time you go for a drive. The ACUITY Short Throw Adapter can be appreciated as much during street driving as at the track. The Short Throw Adapter reduces the mechanical advantage of the shifter to provide shorter, stiffer gear throws. The extender is turned and milled from 300 series stainless steel, making it strong and extremely corrosion resistant. Acuity's unique clamping design ensures the extender will stay fastened, even with a modest amount of torque. This pairs very well with Acuity's Shifter Base Bushings (1914), Shifter Centering Spring Upgrade (1918), and Shifter Rocker Upgrade (1922).

By reducing the throw at the shifter, you are effectively reducing the play in the shifter cables by the same amount you are reducing throw. When the throw is reduced at the transmission, the play from the cables remains the same while the throw is reduced. This was the primary motivation for Acuity's choice to make a short throw adapter that fits to the shifter.

Each kit includes an alcohol wipe and grease packet so the spherical joint can be cleaned and re-greased before installation.

On the Civic Sport models, this Short Throw Adapter will reduce gear throw by approximately 26% from stock. Effectively, the OEM Sport Throw is 35% longer than it will be after installing the Acuity Short Throw Adapter.

On the Civic Si
, this Short Throw Adapter will reduce gear throw by approximately 24% from stock. Effectively, the OEM Si Throw is 32% longer than it will be after installing the Acuity Short Throw Adapter.

On the Accord Sport modelsthis Short Throw Adapter will reduce gear throw by approximately 25% from stock. Effectively, the OEM Sport Throw is 34% longer than it will be after installing the Acuity Short Throw Adapter.

Fitment:

  • 2016-2021 Honda Civic (10th Gen, MT only)
  • 2017-2021 Honda Civic Si (10th Gen)
  • 2018+ Accord (10th Gen, MT only)

This Short Throw Adapter is not recommended for use with the Civic Type R (FK8) shifter due to excessive shifter cable angle when used together

Shifter-mounted short-throw adapters, regardless of brand, tend to cause the shifter to make a slight "click" noise when engaging even gears and reverse. This is primarily true of the 10th Gen Civics; we haven't noticed this as much in the 10th Gen Accords.

There are pricey solutions to this that can be bought, but here is a simple, cost-effective solution to this that involves the drilling of the stock plastic shifter and installation of two zip ties. The video detailing the source of the noise and the solution is below. Skipping this step will not cause problems other than a possible audible click during shifts into even gears. This solution will also work with any other brand of short shift adapter for the 10th Civic that mounts to the shifter itself.

A different experience

Getting the car I noticed the throws were long and it felt spongy. Nothing crazy, it was just Honda's way of making the manual as ergonomic as possible, but I wanted something more sporty and the throws shorter. As a side note, I'm 5ft 5in and getting into 5th gear required me to lean! Even with all the adjustments I could do with my chair, 5th gear was too far away cuz of my short arms.Install:Moderate difficulty. At first you feel like you're destroying your car, but the website gives you EXCELLENT step by step colored instructions for the accord and civic. I followed it exactly and got done in about 2 hours, I had interior trim tools and I recommend them for this job. I think a beginner can do it. I would allocate 3 hours of your day to be safe. Results:The shifting experience changes drastically. Your shifts are shorter but pushing into the gears is HARDER. Its time to hit the gym because the effort to push into your gates is about 2x the effort compared to made-for-grandma shifting. So far I'm actually slower to engage my gears because of the effort, then again I haven't been to the gym for years. Planning on adding an aftermarket shifter that may help.I would recommend seeing that its the only way to shorten your shifts so far other than buying the 480$ shifting assembly. This is worth the 100$ I spent.

AMAZING improvement !!

This product blew away my expectations. I coupled this with the Acuity centering spring and mount bushings. Literally a night and day improvement. Shifts are very solid and highly tactile. And the throws are MUCH shorter. Installation was a breeze. Customer service is impeccable ! I’m a mechanical engineer and I’m extremely impressed !!!

Almost Perfect

My car is a 2018 Honda Accord Sport 6 speed manual. The install instructions were great. The only complaint there is details on how much movement it should have once it is attached to the bushing. Driving with it for the past two months my opinion of it is that it is great if you want to drive your car like a race car jamming gears, but leisurely daily driving for my commute it can fight me at times getting into some gears. I installed their rocker first and foremost and that alone brought my car to the way I believe Honda should of sold it stock. It made it feel effortless to get to upper gears. If you want to go this route I suggest just replacing the whole shifter rather that adding an adapter, or replace the rocker alone.
